If your child is getting poor grades and not behaving properly in school, it could be a result of poor hearing. Even a slight hearing loss could affect your child's performance in school Almost 15% of children between the ages of 6 and 19 have some sort of hearing loss in one or both ears. Research has shown that 25% to 35% of children with unilateral hearing loss are at risk of falling at least one grade behind their peers with no hearing loss. Children with hearing loss are many times misdiagnosed as having ADD and ADHD due to the child's poor academic performance and their poor behavior in school. However, a recent study published in 2015 shows that early intervention along with greater parental involvement are the keys in correcting this issue. In conclusion, the signs that you as a parent and the teachers should be observing are 1) inattentiveness, 2) inappropriate responses to question, 3) daydreaming, 4) trouble with following directions, and 5) speech problems.
